ABOUT US

Our club is a positive development program for students  who want to grow, lead, and make a difference.

The Four H's are - Head, Heart, Hands & Health

This program gives student members the opportunity to  learn communication, networking and life skills, and develop a passion to be strong leaders in every aspect of their lives.

Our club at DDMS  is dedicated to learning about hunger and homelessness in the local community. Student members learn about the issues and design projects and events throughout the school year  to have a positive impact within the community and make a difference in the lives of others.

WHAT WE DO

Our first social innovation project started in 2016 with the opening of the 4H School Pantry at DDMS. This project allows food-insecure students at our school and their families to access food assistance.

The goal of the 4H Pantry  is to minimize hunger and malnutrition for those who are in need in our school and community.Throughout the school year we host multiple food drives reaching out to; students, parents, local community and businesses for their support.

We rely heavily on this support to spread awareness about our program and also help us provide food security for children and their families. We need parents, businesses and organizations to get involved in helping us cultivate the next generation of leaders to make a difference in the lives of others by driving out hunger and providing food security.

WHY

Our program is so critical to student success. Studies link food insecurity in children to lower test scores and academic failure. Hungry children have trouble concentrating, and struggle with behavioral issues in the classroom. Without sufficient nutrition, kids face a higher risk for developmental impairments. Individuals that have struggled with food insecurity as a child suffer long-term effects, such as poor health and lack of job readiness.

33.9% of children under 18 in Wake County are food insecure.

ONE in FOUR children in North Carolina are food insecure!
